Researchers from the University of Osnabrück and Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg are embarking on the fieldwork phase of the research project. Through ethnographic research placements with the partner organisations, the aim is to experience the team and organisational culture of the respective companies and to document them. 

In addition, career history interviews will be conducted with employees from the companies to identify factors contributing to resilience at an individual level, with a view to developing HR practices that take personal histories into account.

Last but not least, a questionnaire is to be distributed across the participating companies from September onwards to enable a comparative assessment of resilience at different points in time.

The Spring Congress of the Society for Ergonomics took place in Kassel from 11 to 13 March 2026. The project team from Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg had the opportunity to present the project proposal to the ergonomics community during a session on the topic of resilience.

Our collaborative project: ‘Meaning as a Resource: Sensemaking Methods for Enhancing Resilience in Organisations (SENSILIENZ)’ got underway on 26 and 27 February 2026 with a kick-off meeting. In the library of Otto von Guericke University, the project partners developed a shared framework for the project’s launch. With active participation from the research partners – Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and the University of Osnabrück – as well as the industry partners Paus Maschinenfabrik, implantcast, NetCo Professional Services and Humanas, targets were agreed for the first year of the project. It was also necessary to coordinate the operational approach with the involvement of the project organiser, Karlsruhe.
